The Details | Chicka Chicka Boom Boom by Bill Martin is a very popular book. It is used often in classroom settings. There are an abundant amount of resources to go along with this book. Listed below are three of many websites devoted to using this book with students (the last one is an entire Pinterest board):
It has also been listed on many different "Best" lists. Based on online polls, it was listed both as one of the Top 100 Picture Books by School Library Journal and Teachers' Top 100 Books for Children by the National Educational Association. It has also won the Kentucky Bluegrass Award in 1991 and the the Parents' Choice Award in 2003. This book teaches children the alphabet. Each letter of the alphabet climbs up the coconut tree. The engaging, rhyming text makes this a fun book to read that is sure to grab young readers' attention. The tree eventually bends over and the upper case letter have to come rescue the lower case ones. The bright colors and simple illustrations help the reader to focus on learning the letters. The rhyming text allows them to stay engaged throughout the story. It is definitely a staple for any library that serves youth. I decided to review this book because it was listed underneath the recommended titles for my course. After reading this book again, I was curious about what it is labeled as in libraries. I searched Evergreen Indiana for various libraries record of this book. I could not find a single library that labeled this book as nonfiction. Based upon our course work, this book is labeled as informational because it teaches children the alphabet. I wonder why there is such a difference of opinion in libraries across Indiana. |
