An Egg Is Quiet written by Diana Aston and illustrated by Sylvia Long This explanatory nonfiction picture book is geared towards the young reader. The book contains two types of text: the main text which appears in a larger font and follows a repeated pattern (An egg is...) and a smaller text that provides interesting facts for the reader. The book is set against a white background with beautiful illustrations of different types of eggs on each page. The two types of texts are differentiated by separate fonts. The simple design and colorful illustrations are sure to catch the readers eye. An Egg Is Quiet teaches children about many aspects of eggs. From egg shape and color to the purpose and parts of an egg, children will learn many important facts. The content will attract those youngsters who want to know more about eggs. This book could be used with animal unit where kids learn what types of animals lay eggs. This book could also be a springboard into different animal species, since there are so many different types of animals listed in the book. One of my favorite portions of the book is the inside covers. Upon first opening the book, you will see many different types of eggs with their animal listed. Upon finishing the book, you see all of the animals shown again once hatched. This helps the reader to connect the animal with its egg. |
